One-stop posts big numbers; Early voting continues

The New Hanover County Board of Elections logged a lively turnout on day one of one-stop voting.

By the end of the business day the office’s five one-stop voting sites had collected 3,653 ballots in the election that includes contests for president and governor among numerous other slates.

Also notable, Wilmington voters this year face a controversial $37 million bond referendum regarding a proposed city-owned baseball stadium (sample ballot). At Wrightsville Beach, voters will decide whether to ban smoking on the beach strand (sample ballot).

In the breakdown, the majority of the ballots–1,253–were collected at the New Hanover County Board of Elections office at 230 Government Center Drive.

The county senior center at 2222 S. College Road recorded 1,198 voters.

The New Hanover County Public Library at 201 Chestnut St. in downtown Wilmington had 661.

The Carolina Beach Police Training Room at 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd. brought in 443.

Cape Fear Community College’s North Campus at 4500 Blue Clay Road–a new one-stop site this election–gathered 398.
