Wilmington Police officer injured over the weekend

WILMINGTON — A Wilmington Police officer sustained minor injuries after his patrol car was hit by a man later charged with driving under the influence.

Police say at 4:37 a.m. Saturday, Nicholas Lamastus, 27, of Wilmington hit a patrol officer in the 6100 block of Market Street.  Lamastus was driving a 2004 Land Rover when he rear-ended Officer Frederick Elder while in his patrol car.  Both vehicles were a total loss.

Elder was taken to the Cape Fear Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries, then released.
