‘Eco-tour’ of Bradley Creek marsh offered

WILMINGTON — Environmental educators at Airlie Gardens have announced a kayak “eco-tour” of the Bradley Creek tidal marsh scheduled for September 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Boats will depart from the Airlie dock.

Offered in partnership with Hook, Line & Paddle Canoe & Kayak Outfitters, the guided eco-tour will “focus on the flora, fauna, and ecosystem of Bradley Creek, but there will also be discussion about coastal conservation issues,” explained a press release from New Hanover County government, which operates the 67-acre public garden.

Topics will include bird-watching, oyster reef restoration, stormwater runoff, and best management practices for watershed protection, the release added. “Participants should be interested in understanding and appreciating this natural resource as well as be able to endure mild physical activity.”

Registration will cost $50 per person and will be limited to 12 persons per tour. A minimum of six registrants will be needed for the tour to take place.

The registration fee will cover the kayak, life jacket, instructor and a snack. Persons interested may contact Airlie’s Environmental Education Program at 798-7707 or mcollogan@nhc.gov.
