Across its 12,000 U.S. stores, Lidl has issues a voluntary recall of one of its holiday items.
Favorina’s 8.4-ounce Advent Calendars, with premium chocolate and creamy filling, were exposed to potential salmonella contamination, according to a release from the FDA. The calendars were sold between Oct. 12 and Dec. 5, 2022 and have a barcode number of 4056489516965, with a best used-by year of 2023.
The issue was identified amid routine testing; there have been no reports or complaints of illness related to the calendars.
Salmonella toxicity can cause serious illness, even fatally affect children, elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Adverse affects from salmonella include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain in healthy individuals.
If the organism travels into the bloodstream, it can produce severe illnesses, such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
Consumers are advised to immediately return the product to the nearest Lidl for a full refund. In Wilmington, Lidl is located on Oleander Drive at Independence Mall and on Eastwood Road, near Mayfaire.
Questions can be directed to Lidl’s hotline at 1-844-747-5435.
