WILMINGTON — Two shootings that took place in the greater Wilmington area this weekend have left two people dead and five people behind bars facing murder charges.
The first took place Friday, Sept. 23, around 3 p.m. in the 1200 block of Buckingham Ave. The victim was an 18-year-old, Jailin Tilghman-Deablo, who was transported to Novant Health-NHRMS with life-threatening injuries and passed away.
The second shooting happened Saturday, Sept. 24, in the 500 block of Anderson Street at 6 p.m. A 17-year-old, who has not been named, sustained a gunshot wound. Officers attempted life-saving measures until EMS could transport the juvenile to Novant-NHRMC; he succumbed to his injuries.
“These cases are not believed to have a relationship to one another,” WPD noted in a statement to media Sunday.
A unnamed juvenile has been arrested and charged in the Anderson Street murder. WPD said he is being held at the New Hanover County Juvenile Detention Center.
In the Tilghman-Deablo murder, two 18-year-olds, Damon Stackhouse and Labron Damarieion Isai Pryor, are charged with multiple counts, including murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and possession of a stolen firearm. They are being held at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center without bond.
There are also two 16-year-olds tied to the Tilghman-Deablo case, both of whom have been charged with murder. Their names have not been released and they are being held at the New Hanover County Juvenile Detention Center.
“Reducing gun violence in our community is a top priority for the Wilmington Police Department,” WPD noted in a release. “We will charge all perpetrators to the fullest extent of the law. If these cases qualify, we will seek federal charges.”
Both cases are ongoing investigations. Anyone with information can contact WPD by calling 910-343-3609 or using the anonymous Tip411 app.
