St. Patrick’s parade, festival canceled Saturday due to inclement weather

WILMINGTON — The official return of Wilmington St. Patrick’s Parade and Festival will have to wait another year.

According to a social media post from the parade committee, Saturday’s events will be canceled due to inclement projected for Saturday, Mar. 12.

Strong thunderstorms are forecast, with strong winds reaching 30 to 45 miles per hour, and the possibility of an isolated tornado. during the morning hours. A cold front also will move in with temperatures going from 70 to 40 overnight.

“With the committee’s concern for safety for all participants and spectators, there was no other option but to cancel this year’s parade,” the post noted. “The post-parade Festival has also been canceled.”

The committee explained all application fees will be returned to participants by the end of March.

“We look forward to our 2023 parade next March,” it stated. “Le dioma mor (with great disappointment).”

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade was canceled in March 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. The committee was able to throw a half-way to St. Patrick’s Day event last September.
