No. 6 Most Read of 2025: Thousands of homes both denied and signed off on in Brunswick County

Numerous developments have aimed for approval in Brunswick County in 2025 . (Port City Daily/File)

BRUNSWICK COUNTY — As development continues to evolve in the region, any coverage Port City Daily publishes regarding new projects resonates with readers. Particularly, this year, as thousands of homes are constantly popping up at monthly Brunswick County Planning Board meetings.

The sixth most read stories of 2025 include both denials and approvals for projects looking to break ground across the county. In September, the planning board denied around 1,650 homes in Ash and Winnabow, while the month before the board approved a revised plan to bring 1,700 homes near Leland.

Planning board meetings include public comment periods, with people speaking out in opposition and in favor, many covering a variety of topics from the impacts of increased traffic and concerns over flooding to other infrastructure needs to accommodate rapid growth. Both are included below.

Catch up on two stories below that tied for the number six most read story of 2025.
