WPD identifies suspect in Mercer Avenue stabbing

WILMINGTON — Wilmington Police are actively searching for a suspect in connection with a stabbing that occurred at a residence on Mercer Avenue earlier this week.

On Tuesday, June 3, at approximately 5:26 p.m., Wilmington Police Department officers responded to a dispute call at 319 Mercer Avenue. Upon arrival, investigators discovered an argument between two male roommates had escalated, leading to one individual stabbing the other.

The victim sustained serious, but non-life threatening, injuries as a result of the assault and was promptly transported to Novant Regional Medical Center for treatment. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. WPD confirmed the incident occurred between two individuals who were known to each other.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, WPD detectives have since obtained an arrest warrant for Alejandro Diaz Lopez, age 21. Lopez is wanted on charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
