The Agenda: This week in local government

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily shares upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, Aug. 14

The Brunswick County Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. at the Brunswick County Government Center, 30 Government Center Drive in Bolivia. Items on the agenda include:

  • Public hearings on Heartsease at Ocean Isle, a planned development on 24 acres, Danford Tract, a planned development on 121 acres on Danford Road and a modification to Olde Georgetown, a previously-approved development on Southport-Supply Road.

The Town of Burgaw Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Burgaw Town Center, 108 E. Wilmington St.

The Wilmington City Council will hold an agenda review at 8:30 a.m. at city hall, 102 N. Third St. The meeting can be livestreamed on GTV8 and YouTube.

Tuesday, Aug. 15

The New Hanover County Schools Board of Education will hold a town hall meeting at 5 p.m. preceded by a closed session at 3:45 p.m. and policy committee meeting at 10 a.m. All three meetings will take place in the Board of Education Center, 1805 S. 13th St. Meetings are live streamed here. The Town of Burgaw Police Advisory Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Burgaw Town Center, 108 E. Wilmington St.

The North Topsail Beach Beach Inlet Sound Advisory Committee will meet at 10:30 a.m. at town hall, 2008 Loggerhead Court. The agenda can be found here.

Wilmington City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. at city hall, 102 N. Third St. The meeting can be livestreamed on GTV8 and YouTube. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Resolution authorizing contract amendment #6 for the 2021 Annual Needs Stormwater Infrastructure Drainage Repairs and Rehabilitation Project for $3 million with Nu-Pipe, LLC, of Mount Pleasant, S.C.
  • Resolution authorizing the city manager to negotiate and execute a contract with LS3P Associates Ltd. for professional architectural services Involving 929 N. Front St.
  • Public hearing for a rezoning of 8.7 acres at 2231 One Tree Hill Way from light industrial to manufactured housing conditional district for an RV campground

The New Hanover County/City of Wilmington Community Relations Advisory Committee will meet at 4:30 p.m. to finalize plans for the upcoming listening session for parents of students who receive special education resources. The meeting can be livestreamed via Zoom.

Wednesday, Aug. 16

Brunswick Water and Sewer H2GO will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. at Belville Town Hall, 63 River Road. A copy of the agenda can be found here

Pender County Board of Adjustment meets at 9 a.m. in the Pender County Public Assembly Room 805 S. Walker St., Burgaw. The agenda includes an appeal made by David Piepmeyer, applicant, regarding an administrative decision made by the Planning & Community Development Department to close a zoning violation case. The zoning violation was issued to the owners of Wooten Holding Co, LLC on February 14, 2023, for failing to adhere to the conditions of approval of Special Use Permit. 

The Town of Surf City Board of Adjustment will meet at 3 p.m. at the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way.

Wilmington Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Technical Coordinating Committee will meet at 10 a.m. at 305 Chestnut St. in Wilmington. The meeting can be livestreamed via Zoom. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Resolution adopting the 2024-2033 STIP
  • Resolutions approving the project submittals for prioritization 7.0 in all modal categories
  • Discussion about WMPO’s boundary, governance and structure

Thursday, Aug. 17

The Leland Town Council will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. at town hall, 102 Town Hall Drive. The meeting will be livestreamed, and the link and agenda can be found here

An item on the agenda includes:

  • A public hearing on the town’s intentions to borrow $8,000,000 in installment loan financing to fund the construction of Founders’ Park.

The Navassa Town Council will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the Navassa Community Center, 338 Main Street. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Southport Planning and Zoning Board will meet at 6 p.m. in the Southport Community Building, 223 East Bay St. The board will discuss the Comprehensive Land Use Plan update.

Surf City technical review meeting takes place at 10 a.m. in Council Chambers, 214 W. Florence Way, in council chambers. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Town of Burgaw Planning and Zoning Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Burgaw Town Center, 108 E. Wilmington St.

The Topsail Beach Beach Inlet Sound Committee will meet at 2 p.m. at town hall, 820 S. Anderson Blvd. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Wilmington Board of Adjustment will meet at 1 p.m. at city hall, 102 N. Third St. The meeting can be livestreamed on GTV8 and YouTube. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Variances to tree preservation regarding one specimen tree at 525 Ponderosa Drive
  • Variance to setback requirements at 5600 Eider Lane
  • Variance to parking and driveway location in the urban mixed-use district at 418 Wooster St.

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will hold an agenda review at 4 p.m. at the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive.

The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Human Resources Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. in rooms 138 and 139 of the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive. The agenda can be found here.

The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Sustainability Committee will meet at 11 a.m. in rooms 138 and 139 of the NHC Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive. The agenda can be found here.

Friday, Aug. 18

The Bald Head Island Village Council will meet at 10 a.m. in the Public Safety Complex, 273 Edward Teach Extension. Meetings are live streamed here. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Surf City Town Council will hold a work session at 9 a.m. at the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way.
