BRUNSWICK COUNTY — A new “Bookmobile” is launching in Brunswick County to offer services in underserved and rural areas.
“This new mobile library branch brings the wide variety of resources and services that we offer to the community,” Library Director Patricia Dew said in a release. “I am excited to reach community members who may not be able to make it to one of our existing branches.”

The Brunswick County Library has five branches, in Southport, Shallotte, Leland, Oak Island and Carolina Shores. The new Bookmobile will offer patrons a way to:
- Get a library card
- Browse and check out materials
- Place materials on hold from other branches to be picked up at your Bookmobile stop
- Return library materials
- Attend programs
- Get assistance with online resources
- Use free public Wi-Fi
In 2024, the Bookmobile was purchased for $293,320 using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA)-enabled funds from Matthews Specialty Vehicles in Greensboro. Since, the Bookmobile has been modified, to varied book collections (e.g., children’s boardbooks, children’s picture books, children’s fiction, children’s non-fiction, adult fiction, adult non-fiction, adult large print), an ADA-compatible wheelchair, carts with pop-up displays and more.
A ribbon-cutting will take place on March 16, 3:30 p.m., in front of the government center complex at 20 Government Center Dr. in Bolivia. Learn more information here.
