SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Though New Hanover and Brunswick county governments reopened operations and most facilities on Tuesday, Feb. 3, the parks remained closed due to snow left behind from Winter Storm Gianna. That will change for the most part Wednesday.

New Hanover County announced a majority of its parks, including the Arboretum and Airlie Gardens, will reopen to the public on Feb. 4 and operate regular hours. Some trails, courts and amenities may temporarily remain closed as icy and wet conditions haven’t cleared completely.

However, the reopening won’t apply to all parks and amenities. Hanover Pines Park, for instance, will be closed as crews still clear ice and snow from the parking lot, walking trail and playground.

Also closed will be the Senior Resource Center Nature Trail, Summer Rest Trail, Blue Clay Bike Trail, the disc golf courses at Northern Regional Park and Arrowhead Park, the clay tennis courts at Echo Farms, and the Long Leaf Park playground.

In Brunswick County, parks will reopen at 8 a.m., including rentals. Most programs and leagues also will continue, except for Brunswick County Youth Basketball, which remains postponed until further notice.
