Wilmington man wins $100K jackpot

WILMINGTON — A local player scored the Cash 5 jackpot through the North Carolina Education lottery last weekend.

Michael Pepper won $100,000 on Saturday, Sept. 20, saying he had to ask his brother to double check the numbers to make sure he was seeing them correctly. His odds were 1 in 962,598.

“You never really expect to win big, but there’s always that chance,” he said, calling it “surreal.”

After taxes, Pepper claimed $71,750, and said he plans to invest it after purchasing a new computer.

Cash 5’s next drawing for $130,000 is Friday.
