WILMINGTON — As summer begins to wrap, city pools have closed — at least for humans. Area dogs will be allowed one final dip during the first official weekend of September.

The annual Pooch Plunge is returning Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6-7, noon to 5 p.m., at Legion Stadium Pool, 2131 Carolina Beach Rd. The event is hosted every end-of-summer season by YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina and the City of Wilmington.

Dogs only are allowed to swim, must have up-to-date vaccinations, and their human counterparts must be supervising. However, people are not allowed to enter or even dip a toe in the water, per health department regulations.

Aggressive or disruptive dogs will not be allowed entry, which is $5 per dog — cash only. Reservations are accepted here.
