SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — A kids coat drive originally scheduled to take place Wednesday has been postponed as a winter wonderland blankets most of the southeastern North Carolina coastline.

Good Shepherd Center, in collaboration with Parkway Subaru and Operation Warm Partner, will be handing out coast on Wednesday, Jan. 29, noon to 1 p.m. The event will take place during Good Shepherd’s grocery giveaway.

“At Good Shepherd Center, our mission is to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and foster transition to housing — but during harsh winter conditions, providing warmth becomes even more urgent,” Good Shepherd Executive Director Katrina Knight said in a release.

The nonprofit organization is working to provide the unsheltered population a place to stay and to grab a hot meal.

The coat drive will ensure local children remain warm during the colder months of the year. Families are encouraged to visit Good Shepherd Center (811 Martin St.) to receive a brand-new winter coat for their children on Jan. 29; no pre-registration required. Coats will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
