UNCW to test siren system next week

WILMINGTON — UNCW will host its quarterly alert system test next month and wants the community to know it’s only a test.

The UNCW Office of Environmental Health and Safety, UNCW Police Department and the Office of University Relations routinely test the UNCWAlert system to not only familiarize the campus community with emergency notification procedures but also to ensure it’s working properly.

The full-volume test will include the outdoor siren system and will take place Sept. 7 at noon.

UNCWAlert emergency notification system communication tools include:

  • Warning siren system
  • UNCW homepage and social media channels
  • Campus emails
  • UNCWAlert text messages and calls
  • Pop-up notifications on university-owned computers
  • All students, faculty and staff will receive text alerts and telephone messages. Members of the community, including parents and families, who have registered for emergency text alerts will also receive the test messages. Community members who have not yet registered for alerts can do so here.

Student phone numbers are automatically enrolled in the notification system; if students’ phone numbers change they should update their contact information in SeaNet.

Faculty and staff also receive emergency notifications as voice and text messages.
