Learn to prepare simple, healthy and delicious food with ‘Cook Smart, Eat Smart’ classes in Cedar Grove

CEDAR GROVE — Have you been wanting to learn how to prepare simple, healthy and delicious food for you and your family within your food budget? The “Cook Smart, Eat Smart” cooking class will be taught at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church starting Feb. 21 and is open to the public.

Classes are suitable for both beginner and seasoned cooks, and anyone looking to learn more about healthier preparation techniques and topics that are good for the family and the wallet. Cook Smart, Eat Smart keeps it simple – simple healthy preparation techniques, simple ingredients and simple equipment.

This course is designed to help you around the challenge of cooking a quick evening dish for yourself or rustling up a family meal. We’ll show you great ideas that you can slow cook and prepare in advance; rustle up quickly; have on standby; or bake to have treats you can enjoy and dish out when needed. With a little know-how, learn to eat well and free up valuable time.

The lesson topics will cover food safety, unit pricing, nutrition label reading, smart shopping, portion control, and more! You will be able to learn the techniques of roasting, marinating, stir frying, grilling, baking, steaming and sautéing.

The whole family is invited to attend the classes from 6-8 p.m. on Feb. 21, Feb. 28, March 21, and March 28. The classes will be held at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 1229 Cedar Grove Rd SW, Supply NC, 28462.

There is a $10 fee that includes four lessons, taste tests of multiple recipes, and a Cook Smart Eat Smart cookbook.
