BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Several studies have shown that buying local strengthens the economic base of the community. As the North Brunswick area continues to grow and more businesses are coming to the area, H2GO has decided to bring its business to local companies.
In the past month, H2GO has implemented many projects to benefit their community and transferred much of its business to businesses in the North Brunswick area. One such project, Operation Round Up, gives H2GO customers the opportunity to round up their bill to the next dollar and contribute that to a local charity.
H2GO has also decided to buy toys with the prize money they received from the Unity Group of North Brunswick for their first place float in the Christmas parade and donate them to children in local hospitals.
Recently, H2GO has brought much of its business to the North Brunswick area, using The Logo Shoppe for apparel and embroidery, ASG Specialties for stickers and promotional items, local restaurants for catering purposes, hosting its annual Christmas Party at the Leland Cultural Arts Center, using Leland Machine Shop to assist with the construction of its first place Christmas float, shopping at Ace Hardware for many of their hardware needs, using Skip’s Tire Service and Tommy’s Auto Repair to work on their vehicles and even setting up deals with Gateway Fitness for their employees.
“Where we shop, where we eat, where we workout, it all makes our community our home. Our one-of-a-kind businesses are a vital part of the distinctive personality of our area. Anyway we can contribute to the success and the growth of our community, we do it,” said Tyler Wittkofsky, public information officer of H2GO.
A Time Magazine article from 2009 during the nation’s recession stated, “A number of researchers and organizations are taking a closer look at how money flows, and what they’re finding shows the profound economic impact of keeping money in town—and how the fate of many communities around the nation and the world increasingly depend on it.”
Buying locally does many things for the North Brunswick area, creating jobs, building the economy, keeping your money local, supporting your neighbors and makes your community unique.
“We’ve found that our local businesses provide us with better products and better customer service than larger companies,” Wittkofsky said.
But most importantly, buying local makes you feel good.
