Game Preview: Hoggard travels down College Road to clash with Ashley

Ashley (1-4, 3-5) vs. Hoggard (3-1, 4-5)

Hoggard returns to the field following its most impressive game of the season one week ago and riding high after grabbing back-to-back wins coming off the bye. Ashley continues to lick its wounds with several key injuries reshaping the roster and its approach each week.

The Vikings could take control of this one early thanks to a duel-threat running game behind Tony Allen (111 rushes, 583 yards, 6TDs) and Rashod Wallace (122 rushes, 666 yards, 6TDs). Quarterback Josh Jones guided Hoggard to win against West Brunswick, hitting seven different receivers en route to 200 yards passing and four total touchdowns.

Hoggard is a balanced offense, with several options in the passing game and on the ground. Collin Hairr’s return to the line up from an injured collar bone a few weeks back has given the Vikings a shot of adrenaline. Tre Houser continues to make plays on special teams, while the kicking game has returned to form thanks to sophomore Jeremiah Kim.

Defensively, three takeaways in the game against West Brunswick resulted in points. Reece Moulton leads the team with three interceptions, but sophomore Isaiah Kemp is player to keep an eye on in the secondary after coming up with a big pick last week.

Ashley has struggled to get going since losing running back Bradley Plyler for the year all the way back in week three. Corey Whaley has stepped up in a big way and without a doubt one of the premiere playmakers in the area. His ability has boosted the Screaming Eagles offense with Josh Reed at quarterback.

Joe Barbera remains a key asset on the defensive line in stuffing the run, but it’s hard to think Ashley will be able to make enough plays come Friday night to shock a Hoggard team, which appears to have found its groove moving into the ladder part of the season.
