Time to toss off your dancing shoes and eight-step it in the sand.
Shaggers will once again converge on the shoreline Saturday for the 31st annual Carolina Beach Music Festival, one of the country’s longest running festivals of its kind, at the town’s historic boardwalk.
It’s a fitting locale, since Pleasure Island is considered the birthplace of the popular dance move and the music that inspired it. And for more than three decades, it has been a multi-generational draw, bringing in crowds of all ages to hear live entertainment on the strand.
Gates open at 10 a.m. for the all-day event. At 11, North Tower will take the stage for a set, followed by regional beach music legend The Band of Oz at 1. The festivities wrap up with a closeout show from Jim Quick and Coastline from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
The music festival is presented each year by the Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce. Coolers, chairs, beverages and food are allowed (no glass) onsite, but pets are not. Those who bring along a non-glass Anheuser Busch product will be registered to win Budweiser swag.
Tickets are $20 in advance (no refunds) and $25 at the gate, and tickets can be purchased at the Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd., Island Tackle & Hardware, Silver Dollar and Old Salty’s. Online tickets are also available through Eventbrite.
