The “altogether ooky” patriarch and his eerie brood have returned, this time to the local stage.
In a first for Wilmington, “The Addams Family Musical” continues this weekend at Thalian Hall, 310 Chestnut St.
Based on the iconic television characters created by Charles Addams, the play brings a brand-new story line to the beloved group of misfits.
And it’s every father’s nightmare.
Princess of darkness Wednesday Addams is all grown up and in love with a sweet and smart man from a respectable family. Naturally, Wednesday is trying to keep him from ever meeting her own relatives.
What’s worse, Wednesday asks her dad not to tell her mother about the new relationship. Gomez Addams is then faced with doing something he’s never done before – keep a secret from darling Morticia.
But everything changes on the fateful night the Addamses decide to host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.
The zany and macabre musical, just in time to kick off the Halloween season, is set for 7:30 tonight (Thursday) through Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $25.

Flytrap Brewing presents a free live show from Americana folk musicians Phil Kelly and Richard Welsh at 8 p.m. tonight. Funky Fresh Food Truck will serve up gourmet local street food from 7 to 10. On Friday, local singer/songwriter Big Al Hall goes on at 8 p.m. and Pepe’s Taco Truck will be onsite from 7 to 10. Married duo Ozzie and Molly Darden performs at 8 p.m. Saturday, with A & M’s Red Food Truck serving up sliders and tacos from 7 to 10.
Singer/songwriter and guitarist Jim Ashley performs original and cover acoustic folk, blues and Americana songs at 8 p.m. tonight at Low Tide Pub. There is no cover charge.
The Juggling Gypsy hosts “Fire and Drums” at 8 p.m. each Thursday night. The event is a meet-up of fire dancers and area drummers, with deejays spinning tunes beginning at 10 p.m. Participants are welcome to bring their percussion instruments and fire and juggling toys. A Tarot card reader will be on hand between 6 and 10 p.m. Admission is free.
New York Blues Hall of Fame inductee Dave Fields brings his infectious guitar-driven rhythm, blues and soul to Wilmington’s juke joint, The Rusty Nail, at 9 p.m. Friday. Fields will perform songs from all of his studio releases, including his most recent CD, “All In.” Tickets are $10 in advance.
The Boogie in the Park free concert series continues at 5 p.m. Sunday with the funk, rock, pop and soul of Sonic Spectrum at Ocean Front Park in Kure Beach.
Theater/Comedy
The Juggling Gypsy hosts “Carnival of Dreams Festival: Zombie Apocalypse” at 6 p.m. Saturday. This unique carnival includes all the traditional games and activities, plus zombies. There will be a moon bounce, inflatable slides, a “monster zombie bash” and a dunking booth, as well as a burlesque show and truth or dare wheel. There will be a DJ on hand spinning electronic music, live music from Antique Youth and comedy from LeeLee Williams. The event is a fundraiser for the local film project, “Karma: A Zombie Comedy.” Admission is $10.
TheatreNOW presents “We Can Be Heroes,” a “brinner” (breakfast for dinner) show by Hank Toler, at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The play tells the story of the Champions of Justice, the world’s worst superhero team, as it welcomes a new member and then experiences a string of unsuccessful battles and suspicious incidents. Tickets are $30 ($18 for show only).
Funnyman Dwayne Kennedy brings his stand-up to Dead Crow Comedy Room this weekend. Kennedy has been a writer for the Arsenio Hall Show, among others. He will perform at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is $15-$19.
Film
Detour Deli and Café hosts Film Noir Thursdays from 8 to 10 p.m. each week. Tonight’s film is “In a Lonely Place,” starring Humphrey Bogart and Gloria Grahame. Admission is free.
