Laney 8 J.H. Rose 0
Senior forward Wesley Nelson tallied his first hat trick of the year to help guide Laney to an 8-0 season-opening result over J.H. Rose on Tuesday night.

The Bucs controlled possession right from the opening kick and used several combinations through midfield to get the early lead. Nathaniel Lorenz was relentless from the back line moving forward and helped set up the opening goal as he found Jack Brarens on the attack. With space moving into the final third, Brarens sent in a beautiful ball from 30 yards out and Nelson scored his first goal of the night on a header in the sixth minute for the early advantage.
It was David Dailey and Jackson Young in the mix during the second score when a couple of short passes led to an open Nelson, who finished a touch from Young with a solid strike just inside the 18-yard box into lower left frame. And the six-foot, three-inch Nelson notched his third score in the 26th minute on an easy chip in to give Laney plenty of breathing room before Brarens and Sam Shifflett notched goals just before the half to put the game in hand.
Lorenz, Tristan Nelson and Brandon Rollins also finished with goals for the Bucs, who moved to 1-0 overall. Laney returns to the pitch against West Carteret and Cary at the annual Battle at the Beach Tournament in Jacksonville August 21-22.
