Officials with Little League baseball and softball announced the official charter of one of its newest leagues, North Brunswick Little League, which will be open to children in Brunswick and Columbus counties.
In its first year, the North Brunswick Little League will offer programs in baseball and softball–from tee ball to the major division–with opportunities for children ages 4 to 18. North Brunswick Little League will also feature a Little League challenger division. The challenger division will give individuals with physical or intellectual challenges, ages 4 to 18 (21 if still in school), an opportunity to play Little League baseball, as well.
“Our community was looking for a new baseball and softball outlet for our children,” said Robert Harraway, North Brunswick Little League president. “Little League’s long history of providing competitive opportunities, while also stressing the fun, character-building aspects of baseball and softball was very important to us.
“The children in our community show the potential to be who they want to be. That means, being a team player for whatever they aspire to be. We would like to give them all that opportunity. Win or lose, North Brunswick Little League gives them that. And being affiliated with Little League gives our new organization the tools and resources we need to start our new league.”
Registration for North Brunswick Little League is currently underway, and will run through March 6. There are meetings every Tuesday at 6 p.m., at the new North Brunswick Little League office building (215 Sunnybrook Way, Leland, NC 28451), and the organization is actively looking for new volunteers and supporters. More information on the league can be found at NorthBrunswickLittleLeague.com or by calling 910-209-1611 or 910-465-3466.
By officially chartering with Little League International, North Brunswick Little League becomes part of the world’s largest and most respected youth sports organization, with more than 7,000 local Little League programs operating in more than 80 countries.
