College spotlight: Hoggard, New Hanover alumni lead Cloud Community College to 10-0 start

Cloud Community College in Kansas is off to a 10-0 start as freshmen Ridell Camidge (NHHS) and Trevor Singleton (Hoggard) have played key roles in the team’s early season success.

The T-Birds dominated over the Thanksgiving weekend with a pair of wins, 111-67 over Quakderdale Prep, and a 72-64 victory against Missouri State on Nov. 29.

Camidge, averaging 16.7 minutes per game, scored a game-high 22 points to close out the weekend, while Singleton had 16 points and seven rebounds in a win on Nov. 22. For the season, Singleton is shooting 48 percent from the floor, averaging 11.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 12.8 minutes per game.

Camidge is second on the team in scoring, shooting just under 50 percent and averaging 15.6 points per game. The freshman guard has hit 20 shot attempts from behind the arc, with 24 assists and 6.3 rebounds per game.

Winston-Salem State

Winston-Salem State is off to a 2-3 start and freshman guard Tiana Edwards (Laney) continues to work her way into the starting lineup for the Lady Rams.

Edwards is second on the team in scoring, averaging 9.6 points per game. She’s started three games and shooting nearly 45 percent from three-point land.

Coastal Carolina

Elijah Wilson has started all six games for Coastal Carolina, averaging 7.8 points per game.  The redshirt sophomore from Laney High Schools averages 24.2 minutes per game.

Football

N.C. State

Former Hoggard High School standout Wil Baumann finished a stellar regular season as the ACC’s leading punter.

The senior at N.C. State had four punts for 156 yards and two kicks inside the 20-yard line in the final regular season game of his college career, a 35-7 win over the University of North Carolina.

While the Wolfpack await their fate on a bowl game selection, Baumann finished the regular season as the league’s top punter, averaging 45.8 yards per punt. He made 52 kicks in 11 games for 2,382 yards.
