UNCW Basketball Coach Kevin Keatts has announced the addition of three transfers–Charlotte’s Marcus Bryan and Denzel Ingram and Barton College’s Chris Flemmings–to the Seahawks’ roster.
The three players will sit out the 2014-15 season and be ready to resurrect their careers in 2015-16. Bryan will have three years of eligibility remaining, while Ingram and Flemmings will each have two years.
“Marcus, Denzel and Chris will be very good players for our program after completing the NCAA’s transfer requirements,” said Keatts. “They will bring a lot to the table because they have a great deal of experience, have played in college games and contributed to their teams.
“We expect them to have an immediate impact after they sit out a year. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to adjust to a new school, the academic responsibilities and the way we do things. It will be especially valuable because they will be exposed to the system we’ll be implementing and have an opportunity to hit the ground running.”
Bryan, a 6-7, 225-pound forward, attended Ravenscroft School in Raleigh and played in 31 games for the 49ers, averaging 3.5 points and 2.4 rebounds. Bryan broke former Duke standout Ryan Kelly’s Ravenscroft record for rebounds and blocks and ranks fourth on the Ravenscroft’s scoring list.
Ingram, a 6-0, 170-pound guard, played two seasons at Charlotte after graduating from Chapel Hill School. He made 10 starts in 28 games for the 49ers and recorded 10 double-figure games, including a 20-point effort against Georgia Tech on Dec. 29, 2013. Ingram averaged 8.1 points and ranked third in Conference USA in 3-point percentage with a 44.1 clip.
Flemmings, a 6-5, 175-pound guard, was the 2014 Conference Carolinas Player-of-the-Year after finishing fourth in the conference in scoring at 20.0 ppg and seventh in rebounding with 6.8 rpg. He also ranked seventh in field goal percentage (.479) and 3-point field goals (66).
Flemmings finished the 2013-14 campaign with a flourish, averaging 27.4 points in Barton’s last five regular season games as the Bulldogs clinched a share of the Conference Carolinas regular season title.
The trio joins former Jacksonville standout Jarvis Haywood to give the Seahawks four transfers to go along with two incoming freshmen on the roster.
Haywood, a 6-4, 185-pound scorer, averaged 16.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists for the Dolphins in 2013-14, shooting 50.9 percent overall and 41.3 percent from three-point range. He earned Second-Team All-Atlantic Sun honors after reaching double figures 23 times in 26 appearances last season.
