Preston Ellenberg went seven innings, striking out five, walking two, and giving up three hits, and Mackaela Smith and Macey Bordeaux hit doubles to lead the Lady Scorpions to a seven-run win over East Duplin.
The win resulted in North Brunswick winning the East Central 2A Conference title and gives them the No. 1 seed in the upcoming NCHSAA 2A state tournament.
“We’ve been working for this for a long time, especially the girls that have been here a while,” said North Brunswick Coach Brittany Lehrschall, who was on the mound earlier in this decade when the Lady Scorpions won back-to-back-to-back 1A state titles. “Getting to this point doesn’t happen in one year and the girls did a great job of adjusting, and now it has all paid off.”
