Shane Shepard had four hits and knocked in a pair of runs, and Dakota Perryman was 3-for-4 with five RBIs in support of the five-hit, six-inning pitching of Noah Borntrafer as the Screaming Eagles (16-5) disposed of the Cougars (2-18), ending South Brunswick’s season, in the opening round of the tournament.
Cameron Johnson hit a three-run home run in the third inning for Ashley, which will be at home tonight at 6 p.m. against Hoggard.

Brandon Boone improved to 6-2 on the mound, and Connor Simpson and Coy Wolff backed that effort with home runs as the Vikings (15-5) moved on in the tournament by defeating the Buccaneers (12-8).

The Lady Screaming Eagles traveled to Laney for a matchup to determine second place and got the job done by spreading their offense and holding the Lady Buccaneers to three goals in the first half and five in the game. Ashley finished in second place in the conference and earned a first-round bye in the NCHSAA playoffs on Saturday against an opponent yet to be determined,

The Lady Vikings (15-2-2, 10-0) ended the Pirates’ 11-game winning streak behind goals from Becca Fowler – off an assist from Ali Frankenny – and Sayres McKena on a free kick.
Hoggard is at West Brunswick today (Tuesday).
New Hanover 3, Laney 1
L.B. Shapiro had two goals and Sarah Miller added another for the Lady Wildcats, and Lilly Herring, Taylor Dodd, and Vivian Hernandez had assists. Sydney Young had six saves and Bailey Edwards had a goal in the loss for Laney.
Fayetteville Academy 2, Cape Fear Academy 1
Addie Lalier scored in the eighth minute off an assist from Maddie Buren but Fayetteville answered with a goal in the 16th minute and another in the 19th minute to earn the win.
Cape Fear is now 12-2-2 overall and 8-12 in the conference and will play Village Christian (5-3) today at home on Senior Day.
