Football
The Mideastern Conference standings are all but set heading into the final week of the regular season with the Hoggard Vikings atop the division at 5-0 in conference and 9-1 overall. The Vikes have already clinched the No. 1 seed out the league and could wrap up the conference title this Friday at South Brunswick.
New Hanover sits a 4-1 in the division, while Laney (4-2, 6-4) enters their bye week with a playoff appearance coming up in two weeks. The injury-plagued Ashley Eagles sit at 4-5 overall, and could potentially get into the postseason with a win against West Brunswick in the regular season finale.
The Trojans (2-3, 2-7) have already clinched the No. 1 seed out of the 3A portion of the conference with wins against Topsail and South Brunswick. The Pirates are also poised to make a playoff appearance in the 3A tournament.
