Tariq Lane had a breakout game for Laney on Friday night as the junior quarterback accounted for more than 300 total yards and four touchdowns in a 42-7 win over South Brunswick. Lane started things off early in the first quarter with a 20-yard scramble into the end zone, and after freshman Imeek Watkins put a score in from 7 yards out, Lane found Laquay Cox for two touchdown receptions before the end of the first half. Jared Kelly also scored just before the break to put the game out of reach.
The Bucs (2-0, 4-2) entertain Topsail on Homecoming Night, Oct. 11.

The Vikings kept pace with New Hanover atop the Mideastern Conference with a 4-0 win at home over Ashley on Friday night. Mohammed Ismail put Hoggard up 1-0 midway through the first half and Patrick Hargrove found the back of the net 10 minutes later to make it a two-goal deficit.
Hoggard (6-1, 12-2-1) gets back into action against Laney (5-2, 9-4-1) in a big match for the league Oct. 8.

Coastal Christian swept the North Brunswick Scorpions 3-0 Friday night in a non-conference match. Junior Lydia Smith and Sophomore Skyler Curran combined for a total of 31 points, while Curran led with nine kills, eight service aces and a lone block. The middle of the net was handled by the duo of junior Samantha Magee and freshman Brianna Hamilton. They had five kills, five service aces and five blocks between. Sophomore Logan Smith tallied 26 assists.
