The result marked another solid performance for the Burlington native, who enjoyed a breakout junior season in 2012-13 by posting a school-record 74.

The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Year  recorded eight top 10 finishes and five top five results on her way to earning an individual invitation to the NCAA Central Regional, where she finished tied for 11th.

The U.S. Women’s Amateur is one of the USGA’s original three championships. It was first conducted in 1895, shortly after the inaugural U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open. The Women’s Amateur has since been conducted every year except 1917-18, when it was temporarily suspended because of World War I, and 1942-45, when it was suspended because of World War II.

The 2013 U.S. Women’s Amateur will take place Aug. 5-11 at the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, S.C. The starting field of 156 players will play two rounds of stroke play before the field is trimmed to 64 for match play.

Desjardins earned All-Tournament Team honors for a second consecutive season as she led TAV Black to a perfect 10-0 record in the 32-team event, which was June 28-July 1 in Dallas, Texas.

Desjardins was one of three incoming freshman to take part in 2013 USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships as Nicole Lott (Synergy Volleyball Club) and Kristen Powell (Triangle Volleyball Club) also participated with their respective club programs. Lott guided SVC to a 25th-place finish while Powell helped TVC to a 27th-place result.

“I could not be more proud to have three of our incoming freshman earn bids to Nationals in the 18 Open Division,” UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek said. “This is the highest level of competition in the club volleyball ranks and the experience gained will be invaluable during their transition to college.”
