Aces pitch Hawks to series win
Mat Batts and Jordan Ramsey delivered big efforts on the mound Saturday, allowing a combined four runs and 11 hits on the day as UNCW swept high-powered Delaware by the scores of 4-2 and 3-2 at Brooks Field.

Batts (5-2) tossed his fourth consecutive complete game in the opener of the double dip and let up two runs on seven hits, with eight strikeouts. Ramsey (6-2) nearly matched Batts, with an eight and 2/3 innings performance, limiting UD to two runs on four hits. He struck out five and allowed just three base runners to get into scoring position on the afternoon.
UNCW’s Michael Bass also returned to the lineup following a six-game absence with an ankle injury. Bass tied the school hitting streak record at 26 with a single in the nightcap on Saturday.
The Seahawks dropped the season finale Sunday but sit atop the Colonial Athletic Association with a one-game lead over William and Mary. UNCW also snapped Delaware’s 13-game winning streak in the opener as the Blue Hens dropped to 9-5 in league play.
Panthers edge Sehawks in series finale
A solo home run by freshman Jordan Brown in the bottom of the fourth proved to be the difference as Georgia State edged UNCW 1-0 in the finale of a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series Sunday at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.

UNCW had its best chance to get on the board in the fifth as junior Morgan McCann drew a walk and attempted to score one batter later on a base hit by Buckworth, but was thrown out at the plate.
The Panthers improved to 27-15 overall and 7-4 in league play as they captured the series with the one-run victory. The Seahawks, meanwhile, moved to 13-24 and 2-9 as they suffered their third one-run setback in league play. UNCW returns to action Tuesday as it hosts state foe UNCG in a 5 p.m. contest at Boseman Field.
UNCW takes eight events in S.C.
UNCW combined to win eight events at the Coastal Carolina Classic, which hosted by Coastal Carolina at the CCU Track & Field Facility.
Rachel Quinn and Dakota Foskey posted first-place finishes in the 1500 and 3000 meters, respectively, and the women’s 4×400 Relay of Signe Hardigan, Erin McDaniel, Cara Enright and Meredith Bozzi won with a time of 4:15.02, besting Mount Olive by over 30 seconds.
The rest of UNCW’s wins came in the jumps and throws.
Jessica Van Hult topped the field in the high jump with a mark of 5-5 feet while in the men’s pole vault, Harrison Booth won the even with a vault of 14-9.
Trey Jones picked up a win for the men in the Long Jump (22-6.25).
In the Throws, Danielle Tafuri won the women’s Javelin and Ryan Kelly won the men’s shot put.
The Seahawks head to the Charlotte Invitational on April 19.
