WILMINGTON — Named the Sugar and Spice puppies on account of their sweet and feisty personalities, Pepper, Toffee, Hazlenut, Latte, Nutella, Chonk, Punkin’ Spice and Clove are ready to start searching for their forever homes.
Currently being cared for by Dauntless Dog Rescue (DDR) and volunteer foster Jennifer Witkowski, the litter of 8 was named via a social media campaign.

“They are four weeks now, in two weeks they will be foster to adopt,” Witkowski said. “We don’t adopt a dog permanently until they are spayed and neutered” she explained, adding that foster to adopt provides an opportunity for both the puppy and the adoptive family to take the time to get to know one another.
“It gives you the opportunity to foster to see if the dog is the right fit for you, to adapt to your lifestyle,” Witkowski said.
With many different colors and an uncertain heritage, the puppies may be large or medium-sized when fully grown.
“The biggest thing for these guys is we don’t know what breed. This is a lifetime commitment and you could be living with a behemoth in the house” Witkowski said.
Prospective adopters who are interesting in expanding their family by one of these furry friends may do so, by submitting an application online at www.ddrnc.org.

After the application is approved, a foster coordinator will be in touch to arrange a meet and greet between the puppy and their new owner.
