WILMINGTON — ”The Summer I Turned Pretty” will conclude with its final chapter this summer.
Amazon announced Friday that the series won’t have another season. The show is based on Jenny Han’s trilogy of books — “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” “It’s Not Summer Without You” and “We’ll Always Have Summer.”
The series finale will have 11 episodes, expected to drop sometime in July.
Season three wrapped last year in the greater Wilmington area. Its first two seasons were filmed locally as well, with locations including Carolina and Wrightsville beaches, as well as downtown and at area businesses, such as Papercut Books, Cotton Exchange, Goody Goody Omelet House and Cape Fear Country Club.
The plot follows a teenage love triangle, with protagonist Belly (Lola Tung) falling in love with two brothers, Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) and Conrad (Christopher Briney). The final storyline puts Belly in college and having to decide which of the two she wants to be with.
Season one of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” debuted on Amazon in 2022 and climbed to the top as the most viewed show on the platform during its premiere weekend. Season two debuted in 2023 and doubled viewership. Production was stalled on season three due to the film strikes that happened in 2023.
Hans not only wrote the books but also served as showrunner with Sarah Kucserka, both of whom are also executive producers on the series.
