WILMINGTON — A film studio undergoing massive renovations has announced a rebrand, as it closes in on completing two more stages.
Dark Horse Studios will now be known as Dark Horse Stages, according to a release from the privately owned business.
“This rebrand better aligns our identity with our role in the film community,” said Kirk Englebright, CEO of Dark Horse. “As Dark Horse Stages, we emphasize our commitment to providing world-class facilities that empower creators to bring their visions to life. Our new identity provides clarity that we do not produce content, but rather we support creators.”
Englebright and his partner Rodney Long opened Dark Horse in 2020 in a former warehouse transformed into film offices and a sound stage on almost 12 acres. It’s the second studio to open in the area, four decades after the 10-stage EUE/Screen Gems launched the film industry in Wilmington (it was purchased last year by Cinespace).
Already Dark Horse has homed upward of a dozen projects, including Showtime’s “George and Tammy” and Netflix’s “Florida Man.” It recently hosted the film “Merv,” slated to star Zooey Deschanel.
Engelbright and Long launched a $20-million-plus renovation of the business a year ago, to bring two more sound stages to the complex. It’s close to wrapping completion on stages three and four, comprising 40,750 square feet. A grand opening is planned for fall.
