WILMINGTON — Ever wanted to see a car explode? Now’s the chance.

Cape Fear Community College student Luce Bennett is directing and producing a television pilot and has plans to blow up a vehicle on Feb. 26 as a stunt for the show.

Bennett is receiving help from CFCC’s film program as well as from local film professionals. The pilot is considered CFCC’s largest film project yet, with a crew of 46, all student and industry professionals.

“I’m excited to see students and professionals working together to create something that stands out in the film world,” Bennett said in a press release. “Not a lot of students get to blow up a car.”

CFCC is donating equipment, such as that used in “CONAN: The Barbarian” for the students to use.

Locals are invited to watch the stunt from a safe distance near the film set at 3101 Marathan Ave. in Castle Hayne, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The New Hanover County Fire Department will be on site to assure the explosion happens safely.
