Maren Morris, Nathaniel Rateliff, Mary Chapin Carpenter tour through Wilmington

Two more concerts were announced for Live Oak Bank Pavilion at Riverfront Park and one for Greenfield Lake Amphitheater

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — One of the most popular voices in country right now, Maren Morris is stopping her largest tour to date at Wilmington’s outdoor, waterfront venue.

Morris will play Live Oak Bank Pavilion on Friday, June 17. Tickets go on pre-sale Tuesday morning, and general sales start Friday. In the days leading up to her show, Morris will travel to other parts of the state, kicking off the tour in Raleigh before moving onto Asheville, Charlotte and then 38 other venues nationwide through December.

Morris is promoting her third album “Humble Quest,” which releases Mar. 25. So far two singles are out: “Circles Around This Town” and “Background Music.” The 11-track work explores the meaning of humbleness and also is a reflection of Morris’ thoughts during Covid-19 lockdowns.

“What do you write about when the show can’t go on?” Morris wrote in a Tweet announcing the album. “I think every songwriter in the world had a few months of that question at the beginning of the pandemic.”

Morris rose to stardom with “My Church” in 2016. In recent years she has crossed the lines between country and pop with her EMD mega-success hit “The Middle,” a collaboration with Zedd, followed by “The Bones.”

Brent Cobb, a country artist who put out his gospel album “And Now, Let’s Turn to Page…” in January, will open for Morris.

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats will hit the riverfront venue on Sept. 23 as part of its North American tour. North Carolina’s own Hiss Golden Messenger, a Durham-based folk band, is opening the show. Tickets are on presale now and will go on general sale this Friday.

Attendees will hear songs from the folk group’s latest, third studio album “The Future,” released in November following Rateliff’s solo album “And It’s Still Alright” in 2020. Formed in 2013, the Denver, Colorado-based musicians are known for their mix of rock ‘n’ roll, R&B and country influences.

Perhaps best known for its song “S.O.B.,” the eight members bring a collection of keyboards, guitar, bass and drums, with Rateliff as the frontman.

Mary Chapin Carpenter

Mary Chapin Carpenter also announced Monday plans to play at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater Sunday, Aug. 21. She was last in town in 2018, performing at the same venue. This stop is part of her 2022 tour throughout the U.S. Tickets go on sale online Friday, Mar. 11.

The five-time Grammy winner just released her 15th studio album, “The Dirt And The Stars,” an American rock-folk-country sound. Carpenter is best known for some of her ‘90s hits — “He Thinks He’ll Keep Her,” “Passionate Kisses” and “Shut Up and Kiss Me” — and is one of 15 women in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Three decades into her career, she’s still performing. Her latest album is her first new material since 2016.
