WPD issue warrant, identify driver in weekend hit and run

WILMINGTON — The driver involved in a hit and run over the weekend was identified by local police.

Wilmington Police Department has issued a warrant for 47-year-old Emily Elizabeth Hayes for a felony hit and run; additional charges will be added, according to WPD.

Hayes struck a pedestrian at Carolina Beach Road near Sunnyvale Drive just after midnight on Saturday and fled the scene.

At this time, Hayes is not in custody and WPD is searching for her.

The victim, identified as 61-year-old Wilmington resident Michael Bernard, involved in the hit and run died after being transported to the hospital.
