Grand jury adds felony child sex charges to Wilmington man’s indecent exposure case

Ethan Nilo Perez, 28, is now facing six felony charges after a grand jury returned an indictment.

WILMINGTON — A Wilmington man accused of misdemeanor indecent exposure is now facing much more serious charges after a grand jury indicted him of six felonies.

Ethan Nilo Perez, 28, was arrested by the Wilmington Police Department on September 26, 2019; the arrest was made after Perez allegedly exposed himself to someone at the Long Leaf Mall Shopping Center. Police were able to get a description of Perez’s vehicle and track it down the same day.

Perez was charged with misdemeanor indecent exposure and was later released after paying a $500 secured bond.

However, there was apparently more to the incident.

According to a grand jury indictment issued on February 24, Perez also allegedly committed three counts of taking indecent liberties with children; at the time of the incident, the victim was 14. Perez also faces three counts of felony indecent exposure — in North Carolina, misdemeanor exposure is increased to a felony charge when the victim is under 16. All of these charges come as a result of events on the original offense date last September and there appear to have been three separate victims.

According to Wilmington Police Department records, Perez was named in two indecent exposure incidents on August 29 and 30 in 2015; it doesn’t appear any arrests were made at the time.
