Still slightly groggy from Thanksgiving turkey, we down a cup of coffee, shake off the tryptophan, and tackle the ongoing saga of the Carolina Beach Harris Teeter.
New court documents allege that Harris Teeter has deliberately dragged its feet for nearly a decade, charging that the grocery giant has never intended to build the long-promised store. Why would Harris Teeter do this? According to new allegations, to stall or block any other grocery store from opening on the island, driving visitors and residents alike north across the Snow’s Cut Bridge to a Harris Teeter.
We dig into a stack of court documents and get to the bottom of what’s going on.
Next, we touch on what the Wilmington Police Department has called an “alarming trend” — two dozen shootings over the last week. While the police have released only limited information, we have learned a few things. For one, while ShotSpotter – the WPD’s integrated audio surveillance system – can turn in false positives, mistaking exhaust backfires and fireworks for gunshots, most of these incidents have been confirmed as shootings.
Last, Brews and Bites, including the happy return of Black Sea Grill to Front Street, and the return to the culinary scene of Celeste Glass, whose second venture — the aptly named Second Glass — opened this week.
