WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH — Zeke’s Beans and Bowls, a Virginia-based coffee shop and restaurant, will soon be opening a new store in Wrightsville Beach at the former location of Annex Surf Supply on Causeway Driver. In June the Wrightsville Beach Board of Aldermen approved the restaurant’s conditional use permit.
Zeke’s was founded in 2013 in Virginia Beach and was named after professional surfer Zeke Sanders, according to the application submitted to the town. The Wrightsville Beach location will be the third Zeke’s Beans and Bowls location after operating Virginia Beach and Norfolk locations successfully.
Zeke’s offers a range of “healthy” food options including Poke Bowls, acai bowls, breakfast options, smoothies, and coffee. Annex Surf Supply recently vacated the stand-along stucco building on Causeway Drive, moving next door to the shopping center adjacent to the building.
The restaurant will not serve any alcohol and will be open from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. during the week, closing an hour later at 9 p.m. on Friday through Sunday.
Prices at Zeke’s range anywhere from $4-16 and the targeted customers are active, healthy lifestyle people, according to their application.
Parking concerns at Zeke’s was an issue and the church next door has leased 10 parking spaces to the building.
“We’re looking for a profile of a business with food with support for the beach people, residents, tourists, there’s no alcohol … we hope you will approve this,” President of the Wrightsville Beach Chamber of Commerce Sue Bulluck said.
The estimated completion date for the restaurant is currently listed as summer of 2018.
