WILMINGTON—After months of wondering what developers have planned for the Collection at Independence, the project that will overhaul the Independence Mall, plans have been submitted to the City of Wilmington for a new restaurant at the location–Walk-On’s Bistreaux and Bar.

Formed in Baton Rouge, Walk-On’s Bistreaux and Bar first opened in 2003 by founders Brandon Landry and Jack Warner, who met at Lousiana State University as walk-ons to the school’s basketball team, according to the restaurant’s website.

In 2015, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees joined the Walk-On’s team as a partner and co-owner.

Currently the restaurant only operates stores in Louisiana and Texas, but has more than 100 locations planned across 15 states, two of which are in North Carolina.

The City’s Technical Review Committee has received plans for the restaurant, which would be constructed over current parking spaces on the Oleander Drive side of the property.

According to the site plans, the restaurant would be 8,801 square-feet and seat 285 customers.

According to Walk-On’s menu, food choices range from typical sports bar food like cheese fries for starters, as well as a Cajun fare, including Louisiana Alligator.

Guests will have a variety of seafood options as well as poboys, gumbo, sandwiches, and burgers.
