WILMINGTON — If you’re looking for burgers, beer and bourbon – or whiskey in general – Rebellion NC is now open on Front Street downtown.
The Washington D.C.-based restaurant and bar launched its second outpost, taking over the former Buzz’s Roost location which operated from 2014 until December 2017.
The Wilmington location opened last week, just in time for an avalanche of hungry tourists during Azalea Festival.
Founding partner Brian Westlye and co-founder Lenny Codispot are joined in Wilmington by partner and chef Travis Weiss.
The bar features a variety of whiskeys and North Carolina craft beers. Weiss’s kitchen focuses on a pub fare, with distinctive North Carolina twists on the DC’s restaurant’s menu. Rebellion NC plans to rotate the menu seasonally.
Currently coming out of the kitchen: a shrimp burger with fried green tomato, a turkey burger named for Wilmington namesake Spencer Compton, and “The Chubby Tarheel,” a sizable burger with two patties, pulled pork, Cheerwine barbecue sauce and Mount Olive pickles.
The interior of the Buzz’s location has been renovated, with exposed brick walls and refinished floors. The loft and outdoor patio are both open.
Rebellion NC is located at 15 South Front in downtown Wilmington. It is open daily until 2 a.m.
Hours:
- Monday 3:30 p.m. – 2 a.m.
- Tuesday -Friday 11:30 a.m. – 2 a.m.
