WILMINGTON — Speed up the time it takes to find your comedic soul mate with “Speed Joking.”

Once a month, the Regretful Villains host “Speed Joking” at Lucky Joe Craft Coffee on College Road. The idea originated last year and the shop has hosted several shows with standing room only.

“We took the basic premise of the buzzer and having the rotation of people which you have in speed dating and we turned it into a comedy show,” said Drew Harrison, member of Regretful Villains.

The format can create forced ingenuity out of comedians used to an open floor arrangement. For both audience members and comedians on stage, “you definitely see the looks on their faces like what is going on,” Harrison said.

Comedians constantly rotate within descending time limits, with the longest lasting four minutes and the shortest at 30 seconds.

“We’ve found out that when comics pick right back up where they left off last round, the audience loves that,” Harrison said. “You’d think we were sending them to the firing squad when we buzz them off.”

In addition to an evening cup of joe, Lucky Joe Craft Coffee offers craft beer wine as well.

Every show is free and lasts about an hour-and-a-half.

This Saturday, the show returns from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. with Billy Raim, Blaire Postman, Jarrod Fortune, Colton Demonte, Tyler Wood, Joe Lefevre with hosts Mat Millner and Harrison.
