PENDER COUNTY – The Pender Commerce Park has a new and globally recognized tenant—FedEx.

Pender County and Wilmington Business Development have announced that FedEx Freight has selected a 12.5 acre parcel in the park for a new service center. FedEx joins the park’s first two tenants, the New York-based Acme Smoked Fish, which established operations in the park in 2013, and Empire Distributors, a consumer supply-chain leader, which opened its Pender County location in 2015.

“The arrival of FedEx Freight highlights the rise of Pender Commerce Park as one of our region most appealing industrial properties, and demonstrates the county’s ongoing efforts to create jobs for its citizens,” George Brown, chairman of the Pender County Board of Commissioners, said.

Located on U.S. Highway 421, the 450-acre full-service industrial park was completed in 2011 as part of a partnership between the county and Wilmington Business Development, the non-profit agency formed in 1956 to market Wilmington and New Hanover and Pender counties to global businesses and provides technical advice.

“The choice of Pender Commerce Park by the world’s leading name in logistics is a huge vote of confidence for this fast-rising economic development asset,” Scott Satterfield, WBD’s chief executive officer. “The property is a significant regional product that enhances the convenience and connectivity of Greater Wilmington’s economy.”

County Commissioner David Williams, who represents Pender County on the WBD Board of Directors, said “Pender Commerce Park is well on its way to being the modern business destination county leaders envisioned in 2006 …”

“It is an asset that will further our push for greater economic diversification,” Williams said.
