Concrete damage being addressed on Oak Island Bridge through next week

OAK ISLAND — The Barbee Bridge which connects Southport and Oak Island is receiving repairs through next week.

According to NCDOT spokesman Brian Rick, the department’s Bridge Maintenance Department will be repairing concrete spalls.

The damaged concrete was discovered during routine inspection and maintenance, required by the Federal Highway Administration.

From now through Friday, Feb. 16, NCDOT crews will be addressing the concrete damage.

According to the Oak Island Police Department, “there will be intermittent lane closures” throughout the week.
