WILMINGTON — Wilmington International Airport (ILM) will add two new American Airline routes, including year-round direct service to the Washington, D.C. area.

Starting in May of 2018, ILM will offer daily direct service to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). Previously, ILM offered seasonal summer service to the area. ILM’s other major carrier, United Airlines, will provide direct service to Dulles International Airport starting in April.

At the beginning of the year, Airport Director Julie Wilsey said she hoped ILM could capitalize on a record year in 2016 by securing more direct flights.

“We’d love to do non-stop to Chicago. Boston is on the list, Dallas-Fort Worth, and D.C. – a lot of people would like a direct to D.C. We have a lot of business travelers, and we pay attention to that, to their needs and where they need to fly,” Wilsey said at the time.

In June of 2018, American Airlines flights from Wilmington to Chicago O’Hare will run daily, lasting until Labor Day.
