Overturned 18-wheeler shuts down road off of Carolina Beach Road

Wilmington — Officials responding to an overturned commercial vehicle have partially closed a road and are asking people to avoid the area.

The Wilmington Fire Department responded to the overturned 18-wheeler at 354 Raleigh St. in an industrial area off of Carolina Beach Road south of Shipyard Boulevard. According to Assistant Chief Jon Mason, no injuries were reported by some of the vehicle’s material was spilled in the incident.  However, the material has been contained and Mason said no danger was posed to responders or others nearby.

The Wilmington Police Department has closed the 300 block of Raleigh Street and are asking drivers and pedestrians to avoid the area. No further information was available about the nature of the spilled material. Mason promised to provide updates as they become available.
