BRUNSWICK COUNTY — The Sheriff’s Office is asking for public assistance in the case against a repeat sex-offender who kidnapped, imprisoned and sexually assaulted a homeless woman he was acquainted with.
Bobby Myron Willis, 53, of Leland is being held in Brunswick County jail. He was arrested Tuesday; the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office charged Willis with kidnapping his victim – a 53-year-old woman from Lexington, Davidson County – for the purpose of “sexual servitude.”
According to Sheriff’s Office, “Willis is known to frequent the Greyhound bus station and Red Cross St. area in Wilmington, NC. He may also have loitered around homeless shelters in an effort to pursue potentially vulnerable women.”
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office ask anyone who “encountered Willis or have information related to this crime,” to contact Det. Charlie Liles at 910-880-5756 or Maj. Laurie Watson at 910-880-4842.
Willis has a history of sexual assault. He served two-and-a-half months in Brunswick County for an assault in 2007. Two years later, he served five months in New Hanover County for another assault. The North Carolina Department of Public Safety lists Willis as recidivist offender, a category of sex offender considered likely to offend again. According to Brunswick County, Willis is being held on $700,000 bail ahead of his court date on Friday, May 26.
