The EMS National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) and EMSWorld Magazine have recognized New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s emergency medical services system as the best in the country for this year. The center will be presented with the 2016 Dick Ferneau Career Service of the Year award in October.
According to a release, the system of 45 ground vehicles and two helicopters (AirLink and VitaLink) is receiving the award due to its “innovative and advanced approach to delivery care,” which includes using cutting-edge mobile medical technology in the field.
“It is a great honor to know that NAEMT and EMSWorld have selected our emergency transport services of EMS, AirLink and VitaLink, as the 2016 Dick Ferneau Career Service of the Year,” Terry McDowell, the center’s administrator of Emergency Transport Services, said through the release. “The true recipients of this award are the patients we serve each day, and this award demonstrates NHRMC’s commitment to providing the highest level of care to our community and region.”
NHRMC’s EMS is operated by more than 235 medical and administrative staff. Overall, the hospital system employs more than 6,000 workers, making it the largest employer in New Hanover County.
Ferneau, the founder of the company Ferno, held many patents still in use in modern EMS service. He passed away in 2009.
