Growing a startup outside of your own city limits will be the focus of an upcoming entrepreneurial session.
Hosted by Jim Roberts, who once headed up UNC-Wilmington’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the panel will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at Ironclad Brewery, 115 N. Second St. in downtown Wilmington.
In addition to three noted business leaders, the event includes moderator Ben Brown, reporter for the Raleigh News and Observer and formerly of Port City Daily.
“All of our speakers have been successful in their own ways. But all of them also now have their own channels with blogs, podcasts and books to reach a larger audience,” Roberts noted.
On hand will be Joe Procopio, whom Roberts describes as a “serial entrepreneur.” Procopio was the founder of Exit Event, a daily tech startup newsletter, which he has since sold to Capital Broadcasting in Raleigh. Now a part-time angel investor, he is involved with Durham startup Automated Insights.
Roberts said speaker Mac Lackey is “one of the original top five start-up kings in Charlotte,” having built and sold several companies.
“He also has several existing companies and looking to get involved in more,” Robert said.
Also from Charlotte, Brandon Uttley, a longtime marketing and public relations pro, has penned a book about podcasting and startups.
