Pet saved from Wilmington house fire

A pet ferret was recovered in good health after it went missing during a fire Tuesday afternoon at a home in the 200 block of Bagley Drive.

Firefighters weren’t able to capture the pet, but did secure it in an unburned room at the home.

Fire officials report more than $90,000 in damages to the structure and its contents after discarded smoking materials on an outdoor deck set fire to exterior siding and traveled up into the attic.

Firefighters were called to the home after smoke and fire was reported around 1:42 p.m. It took firefighters nearly half an hour to control the fire.

As they were cleaning up, firefighters saw what appeared to be marijuana and drug-related paraphernalia and called police, who returned to the scene and subsequently cited two residents with simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both are renters and were released on citations.
